Meet your certified local guide near Himeji Castle and begin with a traditional WASEN ride along the castle’s inner moat. After the boat ride, explore Himeji Castle on foot with your guide. Known as the “White Heron Castle,” Himeji Castle is one of Japan’s finest surviving examples of early 17th-century castle architecture and was Japan’s first UNESCO World Heritage site. Learn how its walls, gates, pathways, and defensive features were designed to protect the castle, and discover stories of samurai governance, craftsmanship, and life in the castle town. Your guide will tailor the experience to your interests.

▼WASEN service suspension: If the WASEN operator suspends the service due to weather or other operational conditions, the WASEN experience may be replaced with a visit to Koko-en Garden or a guided walk through Himeji’s historic town. The tour price remains unchanged, and no refund will be provided.

Overview
Your experience begins as you cross Sakuramon Bridge and meet your Himeji Tourism Concierge. Walk along Himeji Castle’s inner moat toward the WASEN boarding area, taking in the castle walls, water, and surrounding scenery at a leisurely pace.
At the boarding area, put on a life jacket and required safety equipment. Boarding begins about five minutes before departure, and the boat sets off at the scheduled time.
Cruise gently along the inner moat and enjoy a quieter perspective of Himeji Castle. Take a moment to appreciate the castle, water, and landscape from a different viewpoint.
After the boat ride, enter Himeji Castle through Otemon Gate and continue toward Hishi-no-Mon. Follow the original defensive route toward the Main Keep as your concierge explains how its gates, passageways, and angled approaches were designed to protect the fortress.
After passing checkpoints such as Ni-no-Mon, enter the Main Keep. Remove your shoes before exploring its preserved wooden interior, then climb the steep staircases while learning about its structural and defensive features.
From the upper floors, enjoy panoramic views over Himeji City before descending through the castle grounds. Throughout the experience, your concierge will guide you at a comfortable pace, allowing time to appreciate the castle’s details and atmosphere.

・Eating and drinking are not permitted during the tour. A beverage vending machine is available near the entrance inside the paid area. Only beverages with lids are allowed.

・Children under 5 are not permitted. The tour is not suitable for children in elementary school or younger.
・Himeji Castle may be crowded during peak seasons and holidays, and entry may take longer than usual.
