Overview
Your experience begins as you cross Sakuramon Bridge, making your way toward Himeji Castle. Meet your Himeji Tourist Concierge in front of the Otemon Gate, where your journey into the castle begins. After passing through the ticket gates, you’ll enter the castle grounds and continue toward Hishi-no-Mon, one of the castle’s main entrance gates.
From here, you enter the outer defensive grounds and begin the gradual ascent toward the Main Keep. The route follows the original defensive flow through controlled passageways and angled approaches designed to slow and redirect advancing forces.
As you pass through key checkpoints such as Ni-no-Mon, your Himeji Tourist Concierge explains how each gate and pathway functioned within the fortress’s layered protection system.
Upon reaching the Main Keep area, you will remove your shoes before entering the preserved wooden interior. The visit continues upward via steep staircases connecting each level of the structure. As you ascend, your concierge will point out structural reinforcements and strategic design features, placing them in their historical context.
At the upper floors, panoramic views over Himeji City await before you descend and complete the route through the castle grounds.
Throughout, your concierge guides you through each stage of the castle at a comfortable pace.
Your tour may be shared with other guests (up to 7 guests per concierge), depending on demand on your chosen date. Otherwise, you’ll be guided privately.

- Entrance fees for special exhibition areas are not included.
- There are 111 steps to the top of the main tower; please be cautious when climbing.
- This tour involves outdoor walking. During the summer months, temperatures in Himeji can be high. Please bring water, a hat, and sunscreen, and wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking.
- Shoes must be removed when entering the main tower of Himeji Castle and the Hyakken-roka Corridor (Outer Wall).
- Eating and drinking are not permitted during the tour.
- Some routes may not be accessible for individuals with mobility impairments or those using wheelchairs. Please inform us of any special needs when making your reservation.
- The content and schedule of the guided tour are subject to change without prior notice due to unforeseen circumstances, such as weather conditions or operational requirements.
If the tour cannot operate due to severe weather, Himeji Castle closure, or other unforeseen circumstances, guests will receive a full refund. Rescheduling may also be offered, subject to availability.
- We are not responsible for any injuries, lost items, or damages during the tour. Participants are advised to take necessary precautions.
- Participation is not allowed for children under 5 years old, and the tour is not suitable for children in elementary school or younger.
- Himeji Castle may be crowded during peak seasons or holidays, and entry may take longer than usual. Please be aware of this in advance.

Inside the paid areas of Himeji Castle, there is a vending machine for beverages near the entrance. No other beverage facilities are available in the castle grounds.

Please Note:
During the winter, temperatures can be quite cold. Slippers are provided at the entrance to the Main Keep and the West Wing Corridor. However, we recommend bringing your own non-slip thick socks or indoor shoes with heels for a more comfortable and safer experience during your visit.
