En:Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Japan's most iconic symbols of samurai history and culture. For many visitors, images of warriors, armor, and swords are inseparable from the castle's magnificent white walls. This exclusive excursion offers a rare opportunity to explore the world behind those images by visiting the forge of renowned swordsmith Munehiro Myochin and learning how a traditional Japanese sword is created.
The Myochin family has a distinguished history as makers of armor and helmets. The family name "Myochin" was granted by the Emperor in recognition of their exceptional craftsmanship in the mid-12th century. Continuing this long tradition of excellence, Munehiro Myochin established his sword forge in 2005 and has since received numerous awards for his work.
Through presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, participants will gain insight into the artistry, discipline, and spiritual values embodied in Japanese swordmaking. Discover the spirit of the samurai and the craftsmanship that continues to shape Japan's cultural identity today.
日：世界遺産・姫路城は、日本を代表する歴史遺産として知られています。そして姫路城から連想される武士文化を語るうえで欠かせない存在が日本刀です。
本ツアーでは、刀鍛冶・明珍宗裕氏の鍛刀場を訪れ、日本刀が生まれるまでの工程や、受け継がれてきた伝統技術について学びます。日本刀は単なる武器ではなく、日本人の精神性や美意識、職人の卓越した技術を体現する文化遺産です。実際の鍛刀場を見学しながら、その奥深い世界に触れていただきます。
明珍家は代々甲冑・兜を製作してきた名門で、「明珍」の姓は12世紀半ば、優れた技術が評価されて天皇から賜ったと伝えられています。
ツアーでは、日本刀製作工程の映像解説、本物の日本刀の鑑賞、鍛冶作業の見学に加え、古式鍛錬において大槌で鋼を打つ「先手（さきて）」の体験もお楽しみいただけます。
姫路城を中心に育まれてきた武士文化と、日本の伝統工芸の粋を体感しながら、歴史都市・姫路の魅力をより深く理解できる特別なプログラムです。
